Press Release: Chris Murphy Continues Getting to Work Tour at Phoenix Press in New Haven
August 07 2012NEW HAVEN—TODAY, Chris Murphy continued his Getting to Work Tour at Phoenix Press in New Haven. This was Murphy's seventh stop on his statewide Getting to Work Tour. Chris listened to Phoenix Press' owners and employees to get their ideas and perspective on job growth and the future of Connecticut's economy. Chris also worked alongside employees, packaging orders.
Phoenix Press, Inc. Is a family owned business that was started by Kevin and Brian Driscoll in 1982. Phoenix press has over 30 employees. In February of 2010, the printer installed a 100 kilowatt wind turbine, one of the state’s largest wind turbines. They were the first business in Connecticut to install a turbine.
Many of Phoenix Press' employees are lifelong employees and have more than one role in the company.
"Cross training is crucial to any manufacturing or printing process," said Kevin Driscoll. "Family businesses are especially good at doing this because we transfer the family environment to our business. We embrace our employees and allow them to grow, which fosters an environment that supports learning and allows them to build and even broader skill set."
"It's forward thinking, homegrown businesses like these that are the future of Connecticut," said Murphy. "The wind turbine they've installed represents the direction that we want all business to move toward: environmentally friendly innovation. I enjoyed speaking with Brian and Kevin about what they need to grow and hire. Phoenix press has been here since 1982. As Connecticut's next U.S. Senator, it will be my job to make sure that they continue to stay strong and stick around, not just for their employees, whom they think of as family, but for the community that they regard as their friends."
